Now that ACL Fest has packed up, it’s time to settle back into my spot under a thousand fish.

Chuy’s Dallas Texas Tex-mex restaurant Carlton Wade Photography

Just got back from Dallas.  Did you know that there’s a Chuy’s there, a block or two off Central at the corner of Knox and McKinney?  I never thought they could take it out of Austin and maintain the same style, service, food and atmosphere.  Especially in Dallas.  But I’ve been wrong before.  This might be my favorite one.  But Barton Springs still rocks.  Literally this weekend, when ACL Fest gets cranked up.

I’ve been a Nikon and Mamiya user forever.  At least until last Thursday, when I went over to Precision and picked up a Canon.  Here’s my first shot with it.  Mostly, I was curious to see if the pixel quality was better than my Nikons, as some have claimed.  I see no difference.  Jim Walters (the guy who sold it to me) described image quality this way:  “75% shooter, 20% lens, 5% camera body.”

Some guys teeing off the first hole.  I sure wish the sun would’ve popped through.

It’s also for condition, and ConCan Country Club’s is unbelievable.  I know we’ve had record rain this summer, but just look at that plush blanket of zoysiagrass.  That’s a look up the 18th hole from about where a 290-yard drive would come to rest.  (I was there yesterday morning.) You can see some clippings there in that bunker…one of the guys just finished flymowing around it.  Anyone worth listening to had the same comment about ConCan back in May when they opened up:  “I just hope they can keep the course in good shape.”

That’s good enough for me.

I’ve lost 35 pounds over the last two years through gradual changes in diet and exercise. Yesterday, I think I put it all back on.  It’s the middle of Green Chile Festival, and I got sucked in.  Raul’s stuffed avocado was just the beginning.
