September 13, 2007Just got back from Dallas. Did you know that there’s a Chuy’s there, a block or two off Central at the corner of Knox and McKinney? I never thought they could take it out of Austin and maintain the same style, service, food and atmosphere. Especially in Dallas. But I’ve been wrong before. This might be my favorite one. But Barton Springs still rocks. Literally this weekend, when ACL Fest gets cranked up.

September 11, 2007I’ve been a Nikon and Mamiya user forever. At least until last Thursday, when I went over to Precision and picked up a Canon. Here’s my first shot with it. Mostly, I was curious to see if the pixel quality was better than my Nikons, as some have claimed. I see no difference. Jim Walters (the guy who sold it to me) described image quality this way: “75% shooter, 20% lens, 5% camera body.”

September 9, 2007It’s also for condition, and ConCan Country Club’s is unbelievable. I know we’ve had record rain this summer, but just look at that plush blanket of zoysiagrass. That’s a look up the 18th hole from about where a 290-yard drive would come to rest. (I was there yesterday morning.) You can see some clippings there in that bunker…one of the guys just finished flymowing around it. Anyone worth listening to had the same comment about ConCan back in May when they opened up: “I just hope they can keep the course in good shape.”
That’s good enough for me.
